4:07 pm - Cedar Point RAWKS!! (Day 2)
|
On Tuesday morning we arrived pretty much right when the park opened to the general public, and decided to hit what we thought would be the biggest wait first- the Millenium Force.
To get there we took the Skyline again, and I got some pictures of a band that was performing in the park.

When it opened in 2000, Millenium Force was the biggest, fastest roller coaster in the world, with a 300 foot drop and a top speed of 93 mph. Now I believe it is about the 2nd fastest roller coaster that uses gravity as the main accelerant. (Cedar Point has a "roller coaster" called the dragster that goes 120 mph, but the acceleration is completely artificial, and the "roller" and "coaster" is somewhat missing as well). The wait was 45 minutes, and totally worth it. It was SOO fun. I cannot even describe how fun it was. I wish I could ride it every day just to remember how alive you feel when you are free falling 300 feet.
After that we hopped on the Mantis - one of the only roller coasters in the world (if not THE only) which you stand up during. It can be a rough ride, but still was a lot of fun, and my Dad managed to get a picture of our train:
After that we hopped on the train to take a leisurely route to the other side of the park. I took the opportunity to get some pictures of some of my travelling companions.

Getting off in the "Pioneer" section, the girls headed off to do their own thing and my parents and I partook again of the wonderful original water rides. We then enjoyed a lunch of funnel cake, carmel apples, custard, and pretzel with cheese. Yum. The girls decided they did not want to ride any more, so Mom, Dad and I went back to the races.

Then I road my old nemesis - the raptor.

On the raptor, the cars hang below the track and your feet dangle. When the raptor opened around 1995, I was completely psyched we were going to Cedar Point. I could not stop talking about it. Then, I chickened out when I got there and did not ride it (give me a break, I was 11). I regretted it for the next three years until I finally got to ride it in 1998, and discovered its an awesome ride. This time, because I was riding alone, I took the extra few minutes to get a front row seat, which was totally worth it.
The clock caught up with us, and after a brief second train ride, this time for pleasure, we headed out of the park. We picked up my car from the hotel, and I headed south to Columbus while they headed north to Pick up LEKs ferret in Michigan.
It was a great two days, too bad its back to reality now!!

3:21 pm - Cedar Point RAWKS!! ( Day 1)
|
I spend Monday and Tuesday of this week at Cedar Point. It was SOO much fun. In case you are painfully unaware of what Cedar Point is, allow me to enlighten you. It is the roller coaster capital of the world, home to 17 roller coasters including some of the tallest and fastest in the world, located on a point jutting into Lake Erie in Sandusky OH.
<href="http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/index.cfm">
On Sunday night my parents, with Michaela and a friend (Lauren) in tow, arrived at my Grandma's house. We grilled delicious salmon and celebrated Uncle Curts birthday with Strawberry and Blueberry pies made by yours truly.
Then, on Monday morning, Uncle Curt, Parents, Michaela and friend, and I headed up to Sandusky, where we met Aunt Karen and Uncle Bob. We started off nice and slow with the skyline ride, and then a few of us hopped on the classic Iron Dragon - low, gentle roller coaster in which the cars hang below the track. Its a nice warm up. We then hopped across the way at Lauren's request to ride the Wild Cat - a small self contained roller coaster like you would see at a travelling amusement park. About that time Bob and Karen caught up with us, and due to the humid, rising temperature we headed over to the two classic water rides that remain in the park - Thunder Canyon and the Wave (they unfortunately did away with the log ride, now that they have a water park attached, its kind of sad though. I am sure it won't be long until the other ones are gone too). Anyways, before getting on Thunder Canyon we took a group picture:

There we are, all dry and happy. In Thunder Canyon, a 12 person raft navigates down an artificial white water rafting course, under waterfalls at random assuring that most people get drenched. As it turns out, the first person to get it was Uncle Curt, a perfect birthday present! Everyone got drenched on the raft, except Michaela and Lauren. After the ride I took some "after" pictures. Turns out a lot of people don't look different wet than dry.

We completed the getting drenched part by riding Thunder canyon again, and then the wave. Good times, good times. I dont think I would ever get sick of the wave, ever.
To start drying off, I hopped on the Swings with Aunt Karen, and then we took a meal break, while the girls ran off to do their own thing for awhile.

Meanwhile, Dad found a clever way to keep his hat dry in case of more water rides.

Once we all rejoined each other, we stopped by the Gemini - the twin racing roller coasters. Two trains on parallel tracks are released full of passengers at the same time and race to the finish! Mom, Michaela, Lauren and I rode the blue train while Uncle Curt, Dad, Uncle Bob, and Aunt Karen rode the red train. I am happy to say we kicked their butts and are all time champions of racing roller coasters. We then headed off to a really lame boat ride. It would have been relaxing if (1) we hadn't had to wait so long to get on and (2) the captain did not make bad jokes the entire time. After that it was to the Magnum - the tallest and fastest roller coaster... in 1989. 200 foot drop, 70 mph, not that fast by todays records, but still tons of fun. It also made me realize I needed to ride the bigger coaster!
Upon request from Uncle Curt, we headed over to the Bumper Cars, which were great fun, then walked down the fair ways to Cedar Downs, the racing merry-go-round. Each row of horses moves back and forth as if you are racing each other. The boys got really into it, and we girls had a good time too!

Then we hit up the ridiculously over priced but very tasty subway for dinner, by this time of course the younger ones (mich and Lauren) had abandoned us for bigger and better things. Full bellies, we headed over to the original cedar point roller coaster, the blue streak. A basic, old school wooden coaster. After that it was time for dessert - custard - next to this beautiful fountain.

Then we headed to the ferris wheel to see the park at night.

 .
And that ended day one at cedar point. Aunt Karen and Uncle Bob headed back to Columbus, Uncle Curt back to to Cleveland, and the rest of us back to a hotel. The room was nice, and the hotel was right next to Friendlies, where we enjoyed a late night second dinner/snack, and then all conked out, dreaming of the next day.

3:16 pm - Pictures from Michigan
|
I finally uploaded pictures off my Camera (still haven't uploaded ones off my Dad's camera, so nothing from the wedding or when my parents were here).
But here are pictures from when Michaela and I went up to visit LEK in Michigan (actually I think some of these are also from July 4th, also spent in Michigan)

I have not been posting much because not much has been happening. For the most part, I have just been studying during the day and playing video games at night. We went to see Batman and liked it very much. We also have enjoyed having some people over to play video games and watch project runway.
My parents are coming to Ohio this weekend. I will try to post a more indepth update next week after they leave.

It was a good, slow weekend.
Friday night we went to the Arena district and met up with a few friends. A future first year was in town looking for an apartment. It was a lot of fun. Mmm. Fried Pickles. When we got home at midnight I was not ready to go to bed, so we played WoW for a couple of hours.
Saturday morning Sarah picked me up and we headed to the Worthington Farmers Market. There was not as much produce as I was expecting, but still was fun. They mainly had a lot of plants. Maybe if I can get my act together I can clear out the half of the garden I never finished and buy plants next week.
Sunday I went to my Grandma's. I made Banana Berry Layer Cake, a recipe of my own design utilizing the banana cake recipe from the BH&G cookboook, creme fraiche, and a lot of fresh berries. It was tasty.

Its already been over two weeks since I posted! Crazy! Its hard to keep up with this when I am busy out having fun.
Michaela was here for a week after my parents left. I took her shopping, we went to Easton, a big outdoor mall area here. I think she fell in love, she is such a girly girl when it comes to shopping (though not when it comes to most other things). We went to see Don't Mess with the Zohan, which had its moments but was pretty stupid. For dinner we went down to Hounddogs Pizza, which is always yummy. Later in the week I also took her to Polaris, but it was not nearly as fun, definately more focused on stay at home wives rather than teenagers. On Tuesday we went to the zoo with Aunt Karen, Rachel, Becky, and Marin. It was a lot of fun. I had never been to the columbus zoo in the daylight (only for the Christmas lights). Marin was adorable, we went on a boat ride, good times. I have the urge to break into song "Auntie's take us to the zoo tomorrow, the zoo tomorrow, the zoo tomorrow, aunties taken us to the zoo tomorrow and we can stay all day...". We also went to see Kung Fu Panda while Michi was here in Columbus, and had her try some Korean food, which she liked OK. The movie was hilarious. I was laughing quite a bit, especially during the fighting scenes.
Halfway through her visit, Michi and I headed up to spend a couple of days with LEK. LEK was in a very hectic rotation, so she did not have all that much time. We got their Thursday night and introduced Michi to Indian food, which she loved. We rented a bunch of movies, the best of which turned out to be Becoming Jane. The other two are not worth mentioning IMO. On Friday night I cooked us a big mexican dinner - Chipotle Tostadas, followed by a dessert of carmalized fried bananas and fresh cinnamon chips on vanilla ice cream. On Saturday, before we had to leave, we went and tried on Bridesmaid dresses, which was a lot of fun, and then ate Indian again. Sunday morning Michaela flew out early.
Since Michi left, I have really been trying to get back into the swing of things. I have started my comparative study group meetings for generals (PhD candidacy exams), and now also had some meetings for the formal theory exam and other projects I want to work on. I have been doing pretty well at getting school work done during the day so I can play some games and have some fun in the evenings, though soon enough I will need to up the anti and be covering even more material. Its very nice setting my own schedule.
The fourth of July, however, proved another distraction, as we decided to head BACK up to Michigan to see Laurelyn, who had the long weekend off and could actually spend time with us. We decided to take Grim with us, just to add to the adventure. She is extremely good at riding in cars. On Thursday night we drove up there with her, and then rented a bunch of movies for the entire weekend, then hung out in LEK's apartment and watched Juno and Meet the Robinsons. Juno was just what everyone said it was, I could see both sides- it was very funny, but very self conscious. Meet the Robinsons was cute, though a bit predictable (lol.. I guess it IS a kids movie...). On Friday Morning (happy Fourth!) we started out by taking Grim for a nice walk through mosquito infested woods near LEKs house, then we met up with Laurelyn's friend Andrea and saw Hancock, which was highly amusing. I recommend people see it. My only complaint is that it was too short and left me wanting more. Maybe they intended that though. After that LEK and I headed to the stable where we introduced Grim to Joey (the horse). It was HILARIOUS!! Joey is pretty much dog proof, so he sat there eating grass while Grim hopped around her, barking, sniffing, crouching to play, very confused about why this giant dog was ignoring her, very nervous every time Joey moved. Eventually we got the barking under control and started going for a walk. Grim was walking as far away from me as possible on my left with the horse a few feet away on my right. She was obviously very nervous, though well behaved. Then Joey pooped. I swear, it was less than 10 seconds between the poop leaving Joey's butt and it going down Grim's throat. All the sudden Grim loved Joey, she was happy and trotting with her head up, tail wagging, waiting for the "giant treat machine" to make more yummies. Charming. In the evening we went out to a Pizza place for dinner, and then watched part of Pirates 3, before meeting up with Andrea again along with some other VEt types for the Okemos fireworks. Grim met Andrea's dogs and was VERY well behaved. She did not love the fireworks, but they did not bug her too much either. Back at the house we finished Pirates 3 and then stuck in Miss Potter.
Saturday morning Laurelyn and I tried to go to a farmers market, only to discover they did not allow dogs, so instead, we walked Grim through the mosquito infested woods near the farmers market. Yes. All of Michigan is indeed mosquito infested. It was a nice walk though, and we found a pond that Grim despreately wanted to swim in, but I was not ready to let her off leash in a strange place. Her recall needs to improve first. Back at LEKs we finished watching Miss Potter and then watched Atonement, which we all really really really disliked. After that we went out for Mexican, then ended our stay there with the movie Reign on Me which had good potential, but not complete execution. We had to leave pretty much straight off Sunday morning.
Now I am trying to get back into the swing of things again.

10:24 am - My Family's Visit
|
In honor of NOT waiting until I have pictures uploaded, it has been a very fun, busy week. It just flew by.
On Monday I drove up to meet my parents as they arrived at Grandma's house. In honor of fathers day I made a date nut cake using this recipe: http://www.recipezaar.com/31853 You see, my father loves date nut cake, but most of you have probably never even heard of it. It has always been a cake we could only find in Cleveland, OH. I decided to try and make one, and it came out pretty good, though I still need to find the right frosting. We went to Ruby Tuesday's for dinner and enjoyed each others company all evening, talking and puzzling.
Tuesday morning I got up and went on a walk with my Dad. We explored a little trail system near my Grandma's house that turned out to be quite nice, though poorly marked. Then, back at my Grandma's we all ate breakfast and decided to go to Kindred. Kindred is a town about an hour away from Mount Vernon in the heart of Amish country. It is the home of Lehmans, an Amish general store that is always fascinating and dangerous to the wallet. I made it out with only a gift for a friend and a yummy smelling candle (lilac). (P.S. Miryam, I have a belated birthday gift for you!) After Ryan's for dinner we finished our puzzle and enjoyed the sunset.
Wednesday I headed back to Columbus to frantically cook and clean house for the BBQ. My parents headed to Cleveland to chill with our relatives up there. '
Thursday morning, after a busy morning of finishing up cleaning (I had to de-cat my house due to my mothers allergies), I headed to the airport to pick up Max and Michaela from the airport, who though hungry, were excited to be on vacation. We met up with my parents and Grandma back at the house and then headed out to Friendly's for a "light" lunch (lol. yeah right). After that it was chatting and a little cooking until everyone else started to arrive around 6pm. There was a great turnout! Thanks everyone for coming. We had Me, Aaron, Ben, my parents, Max, Michaela, Aunt Karen and Uncle Bob, Rachel, Becky, Marin, Kiersten, and Brandon. There was plenty of food to go around and it was good times. After eating the kids got into the video games on the Wii (supervised by Ben) and eventually we built a fire and sat on the deck, not letting the damp wood thwart our plans (my Dad is a fire genius). Eventually everyone headed out, except Michaela who decided to sleep at my house.
Friday I relaxed in the morning and then gave Michaela a tour of campus. Then, being the all time champion I am, I beat her twice at Mario Kart. Good times. When Aaron got home we rushed off to Cleveland, via Mount Vernon. We drove Michaela nuts in the car, which is exactly how it should be. In Cleveland we headed straight for my Aunt Carolyn and Uncle Jim's house where they fed us again, I got to hold Kyle again, and we just hung out. Back at the hotel, with all four siblings in one place (a rare occurance now a days) things got a little hyper active. Good times, good times.
Saturday morning we ran to Kmart to buy all the various items people had forgotten, most significantly, a tie and shoes for Aaron. Back at the hotel he realized he had managed to buy a box with two right shoes in it. Geez... another reason to try things on (and not shop at Kmart. After the exchange we had lunch at Max and Erma's, which was tasty though slightly over priced compared to other similar caliber resteraunts. Then it was off to the wedding. Congratulations Anthony and Rachel! I think you two are perfect for each other!
In between the ceremony and reception, after family pictures were taken, my mom, Aaron and I drove up State St. to my Mom's old stomping grounds. Ate honey icecream, saw her old house and the fire station we used to walk to from it, and heard a lot of fun stories about my mom's teenage years. The reception was good, good food, good people.
Sunday morning we met with Uncle Curt for breakfast at Perkins as it would be his only chance to see Max and Laurelyn. After that it was to Aunt Dottie and Uncle Bill's house for a BBQ. It was super nice out, and good company, and then a down pour started!! Poor Uncle Bill kept griling right through the giant rain and small hail to keep people fed, while everyone else hung out inside. Eventually we headed back south to Mount Vernon, where Uncle Curt and Aunt Karen joined us (Max and LEK headed to Michigan). It was a fun evening, with more food, and more puzzling.
Now I am back home. Michaela is staying here for the next week, so I am trying to think of a way to keep her amused this afternoon (the rest of the week is planned). Hope everyone had a good weekend!

10:55 am - Another Catchup Post
|
I have this bad habit of delaying posting about things until I get the pictures uploaded, which can take a really really long time.
Here we go!!
Wow. A month ago I went to my cousin Rachel's bridal shower. It was a LOT of fun. Lots of laughs. I did not get very many good pictures, but here are a couple: ( Read more... )
Thank you everyone who sent Birthday wishes! My birthday was very nice. Aaron and I went to a restaurant called Banana Bean Cafe that does Caribean/Cuban/Florida Fusion. It was tasty. Unfortunately Aaron bit into a chipotle pepper and could not finish his food, but he got over it. My birthday was celebrated again once finals were over at a party hosted by our good friend Tracy . It was a ton of fun, a really big turnout, and of course everything was delicious. Tracy and the rest of my cohort seems to have excellent cooking (and food buying) skills. Here is a picture of me and Aaron right before the party:

Grim, Nox and Gandalf are doing well. Here are some more pictures of them, since Grim has not really had that much of an introduction. She is a cutie! We started leaving her out of her crate during the morning (between when we leave and when Ben gets up). She did chew up a shoe and a football, but since we removed all the temptations, it has been going well. ( Read more... ) And yes, Nox's head IS stuck in that toy. Am I a bad cat momma that I laughed at her and let her figure out how to unstick it?
I got half of the intended vegetable garden in (in terms of square feet). I have three tomato plants, 4 pepper plants (of various varieties), and I planted tons of carrot seeds and some sunflowers. Some of the sunflowers are coming up, the carrots are still in limbo. I still have more seeds/plants and more ground, but I think it might be too late to get them in the ground :-( . I think I will at least try to plant the onions since they are already "started".
There have also been some beautiful blooms at my house from the efforts of the previous owner. First peonies and Iris's and more recently a variety of roses. ( Read more... )
That is it for the pictures. What else is new? I am finally, today, done for the quarter (yes, a week late). My parents arrive in Ohio on Monday, and Max and Michaela on Thursday. I am planning to take the week off and hang out with all of them, then I have to start cracking the books. I have general exams (PhD Candidacy Exams) on September 15,16 and 22nd. My summer plans are pretty much studying for those, and working on some other political science projects.

11:22 am - A new Blog!
|
I have decided to start a new, current events blog.
It could also be called the "why people suck" blog. I focus on the news stories that really get under my skin, where people (or countries) are acting badly. Articles that frustrate me (like the one I posted earlier this week about the soup kitchen robbery).
I have titled the blog "I boo that!!" and it is available at http://iboothat.blogspot.com
If I am going to read the news more consistently, I need an outlet to vent that people only have to read if they feel like it.

11:35 am - Why would someone do this?
|
Someone robbed a local (Columbus) soup kitchen. They broke in, tore open the refrigerators and freezers, and stole the compressors. All the food was spoiled. This kitchen normally feeds 1000 lunches each day, and now they cannot even serve one each day, until they find donations of new compressors and can restock their lost food supply.
Of all the places to break into... why rob a charity? People suck.

1:55 pm - 4am Cat Attack (or not)
|
This morning at 4:30am I was sound asleep, dreaming away as I do. I don't know exactly what I was dreaming about, but suddenly in the dream, something was falling off a table. I reached out to catch it before it teetered over the edge, and WHAM!!! Woke up with three fingers on my right hand feeling like they had been lit on fire. It turns out that the dream of something falling was inspired by a cat getting ready to jump off the bed, and that my body was in tune enough with the motion of this cat that when I reached out to prevent the fall, I actually stuck my hand under the back feet of one of my cats as they gripped tightly to the sheets (or my hand as the case may be) as they launched for their jump. The timing, the spatial relations, were ridiculous. I have no idea how it worked out the way it did.
Anyways, fingers in tons of pain (after all, aren't your fingertips the most sensitive part of your body?), my first instinct was to go back to sleep with a closed fist and deal with it in the morning. However, as my body left its sleepy state and started really responding to the pain I decided I better at least figure out it was bleeding. So, in the near pitch black of the room, I held my injured fingers against my other hand for a few seconds. Yep. Moisture. Blood. So, I got up and turned on the light, to find an UGLY sight. While my middle and pointer fingers remained unscathed despite the pain, my ring finger was another story. A jagged cut, over an inch long, stretched from the very tip of my finger to the first joint, partially an open gash, partially a tear deeper into the flesh but covered by a skin flap, dripping blood. I whined a lot. I rinsed off the finger gingerly and not thoroughly, and then spread some Neosporin on it, dug around awhile to find a band aid big enough to fit, bandaged it up, and headed back to bed.
At 7am I awoke to a throbbing finger. After an awkward shower in which I did not get my right hand wet, I removed the band aids to inspect the wound with the fresh eyes of 2 more hours of sleep. It looked exactly the same, minus the active bleeding. After taking the opportunity to show it off to Aaron, I bandaged it back up, thinking about all of the stories I have heard about scratches and bites from cats and the various complications they involved.
Upon arriving to school, after a brief conversation with my Dad in which he confirmed my suspicions that I would need to seek medical attention, if only for a tetanus booster, I called the health center. They set me up with a 10:40 appointment. When I got there (leaving class only 45 minutes in to make it), the Dr was super paranoid. I guess that is her job though. She made me wash it with soap and water (no fun!), and then after measuring it (1.25 inches officially), she re bandaged it exactly the same way I had it, only with less reenforcement, signed me up for a tetanus shot, and, after consulting with other doctors, decided to give me a prescription for antibiotics.
The lady who administered the tetanus shot was nice, though I hate shots, she managed to do it quickly. I filled my prescription for antibiotics, and despite my better judgment, decided to actually take them (isn't the antibiotic ineffectiveness a collective action problem if there ever was one...).
Now my arm is killing me (a pain that rapidly spread throughout my entire left shoulder and shoulder blade), and I am sitting here waiting to go home... which won't be for 3.5 hours. Yay.
The moral of this story? Not much, I just think its kind of funny that I got injured due to a dream. Does that count as pulling a Keener?

12:59 pm - Three Things
|
(1) There is something inherently satisfying about wrecking something. I spent about a half hour yesterday ripping up a small section (about 8 by 5) of our lawn to put in a vegie garden. Very Very satisfying. Still a lot of work to do on it and I am running late (i.e. - should have plants in the ground by now!)
(2) This morning on the dogs walk I saw two male cardinals chasing around two female cardinals. I was highly amused, it was really neat to see them all out their hopping around.
(3) Gandalf likes the new tv:

Ok. So actually this as taken at the old apartment, but its adorable, eh?

6:56 pm - That week FLEW by...
|
Tuesday/Wednesday - Went to class, then spent the afternoons studying.
Thursday - Went to class, had Ben pick me up, went grocery shopping, made a cheese cake for Tracy's birthday party
Friday - Spent most the day at home, but went into school to attend a presentation. Baked and decorated a Ripple Fudge Layer Cake. Cleaned a lot. Friday night we hosted a Surprise Birthday party for Tracy. It was a LOT of fun, and he was surprised (though, not exactly when he got into house, but when he got into the neighborhood). Good friends, good food, good drinks, a good time all around. Everyone liked the new house and the dog (or atleast that is what they said, lol).
Saturday - Somehow we managed to spend the whole day shopping. Ben got a Futon, we got some small things we needed, and then... we got a big screen tv. 50 inches. Its really big. Ben bought it for us as a forward on a few monthes rent. Crazy big. Can't wait to watch a movie on it or play some games! Unfortunately, no time right now!!
Sunday - Today I spent the morning in the attic\, installing insulation. I felt like a Monkey hanging off the rafters. Crazy stuff, but its done, the mess is cleaned up, and I dont have to go up there hopefully for a LONG time. The TV got delivered around 12:30, and it took a couple of hours to set up. Then Aaron and I went to the apartment and cleaned and brought another car load over because our landlord is showing it tomorrow (we have until May 31st to get out). Now, for an evening of office assembly and or studying, I am not sure which yet. Tomorrow is back to the grindstone of school!!
Now, for what people really like: Pictures!! ( Read more... )

8:21 am - We are moved
|
We are moved! (Well, mostly).
We have a new phone number, but I don't know it by memory yet, so call me on my cell if you need me.
We got the new dog, who we are naming Grim, on Sunday afternoon. The name is both homage to the dorm where we met and spent our 4 undergraduate years, and a Harry Potter reference (the Grim, a giant spectral dog). She is a sweety, but super hyper. She wants to play with the cats, but considering she is 10 times their weight, they take her attempts to initiate play as threats. The only possible way she could end up harming them is if she steps on them in her attempts to bounce around and play, so we try to break those situations up quickly. Considering we have had her for like 36 hours, things are going pretty well.
Pictures at some later date, I have got to get back into the swing of school, even though I would much rather be unpacking!

9:09 am - Tomorrow's the big day!!
|
Tomorrow we move! Crazy times here in Columbus.
Just wanted to let everyone know that in addition to my address changing tomorrow (which I will post friended, and send out announcements when I get around to it), my phone number is changing tomorrow night. :-( Stupid cable company can't keep the same phone numbers when we are changing management zones or something like that.
Bis Spaeter!!

11:03 pm - Busy
|
Life has been really busy!
Last weekend LEK and Josh came to visit and help with the new house. It was very nice of them! They came down Friday night, Saturday we spent all day at the house. LEK and I painted while Josh and Aaron installed garage door openers, a cat door, and took out the "spindles" between the kitchen and family room. Thanks guys!!
On Sunday, we all drove up to Mansfield, OH to see about a dog that was listed on craigslist, and Aaron and I decided we are going to adopt her! She is a 21 month old Newf/Lab mix (maybe other things as well, but those two parts are obvious). She is kid friendly, cat safe, very energetic, and very cute. Her owners are relocating to San Jose and can't take her with them. We pick her up next Sunday, May 4th.
Because we decided to get this dog (who we are still trying to pick a permanent name for), we decided we would try and move into the house on May 3rd. This makes life crazy! We still have a lot of painting to do, and all the packing. Luckily we have friends who are kind enough to help us move next weekend, but its just crazy. We bought a washer/dryer, arranged for carpet installation upstairs, etc etc etc. All of this on top of school... thats why I have not been posting so much.
Despite the craziness I admit we have taken a little time off. Friday night we went to a baseball game with a bunch of people. The local minor league team is the Clippers, the feeder team for the Nationals (this year atleast, they always seem to be changing franchises). Honestly, I think I saw 4 plays all night, because I was chatting instead of watching the game, but it was the perfect night to be sitting outside and the company was great.
We have 6 days to finish getting the house ready and packing. We have 7 days to come up with a dog name. In that time I also have to continue writing papers and doing game theory homework (we are working on constrained optimization now!). Besides the carpet and washer/dryer installation we need to get the cable switched over, get window covers and lights for most the house, figure out a gate to keep the dog downstairs (until the cats adjust to her presents), arrange obedience training, pack up all of our belongings, make a list of things we need to do with the truck (besides moving), help Ben move in, change our address with the bank, and many things I am forgetting. My head is spinning.
--AKY--
PS: I am completely aware we brought this on ourselves... conflating the stress of moving with the stress of preparing for a new pet. But this dog is adorable, and I am sure once we are all moved in and things are calmed down a bit, it will all have been worth it!!

Pictures of the upstairs in its full painted glory. Actually, while two of the rooms are done, two of them still need more coats or touchups.
